“Poila Baisakh” is the first day of Bengali New year, from this day onwards the Bengali New Year began. This day is also very special for the Bengali people as it the day for celebrating their favorite game football. In this day the Goal post is worshiped by the team members and followers of the team, with the hope for achieving more success in the commencing year. The reason behind this “puja” is to please the Almighty to bless them with the power and opportunity to get success in the forthcoming season.
This is a 100 year old tradition in Kolkata; all the clubs of this region celebrate this festival with get energy and enthusiasm. On this day the Kolkata Maidan is decorated heavily and the Goal Post is painted and beautifully decorated with colorful flowers, as a symbol of good luck. Till the date this festival is celebrated in the Mohun Bagan club and East Bengal club.

This is a common believe that if we pray on the very first day of the year the entire year will be of less hurdle and obstructions. With this believe all the clubs and their members with their full dedication and honesty pray to the all mighty for a successful and prosperous year ahead.

It was a super Sunday for the Indian sports lovers as there was the final match of the Women’s Hockey World League, Vancouver . Indian Senior Women’s team as they triumphed over Chile in the final of the  Women’s Hockey World League  Round 2. The final match was on 9 th of April 2017, i.e. Saturday in Canada but it was 10 th of April , Sunday for India. Sponsorship in Indian Football has gone a long way since some years. Since the original  National Football League , the Indian league has always been sponsored. When the I-League began in 2007 the last sponsor from the old National Football League,  ONGC , where brought in as the sponsors, making the league be known as the ONGC I-League. However, after the  2010–11  seasons, the deal with ONGC was not renewed and the I-League was left without a sponsorship deal till 2013. On 24 September 2013, it was announced that  telecommunications  company,  Airtel  would be the new title sponsor of the I-League, thus making the league known as the  Airtel I-League.
