INDIAN FOOTBALL BUSINESS AWARDS : THE FILMFARE OF INDIAN FOOTBALL INDUSTRY

India was always regarded as a ‘non-footballing’ nation across the globe due to its poor performance in the international arena. But little did the world know that Indian National Football Team started playing the game in the summer of 1938 and went on to win 2 gold medals in Asian games and getting a fourth place in 1956 summer Olympic games. India also got the opportunity to play the 1950 FIFA WORLD CUP, which was later failed to concrete.
And talking about the Indian club football, it holds even more glorious history. Mohun Bagan is regarded as one of the oldest club in the world, forming in the year 1889 and they set a benchmark as the first Indian club to beat a British team in the historic 1911 IFA SHIELD final. Another city rival East Bengal was formed in 1920 and the rivalry of these two clubs went on to become as one of the biggest football rivalry in Asia. The Kolkata Derby or what the local say ‘BORO MATCH’ holds a place in the list of FIFA’s classic rivalry list.

From the historic ASEAN CUP win by East Bengal in 2003 to Bengaluru FC playing the final of AFC cup. Indian football saw their fare share of glories and these inspired businesses tycoons like IMGR, Jindal Groups, Ranjit Bajaj or Alemao Churchill to invest heavily in Indian football.
Indian football as a market is growing rapidly and predicted to grow by each passing year, thus to encourage the involvement of more business tycoons and prominent personalities in Indian football market and to inspire the existing I-League clubs to upgrade their overall ‘professionalism’ IDEAS UNLIMITED SPORTS MANAGEMENT GROUP is coming up with an innovative concept called ‘THE INDIAN FOOTBALL BUSINESS AWARDS’, it is arguably called ‘THE FILMFARE AWARD IN INDIAN FOOTBALL INDUSTRY’. IDEAS UNLIMITED SPORTS MANAGEMENT GROUP can be regarded as the pioneer of inventing and introducing this uniquely, ‘never seen before’ award in Indian football.

Now what makes this award unique? In the modern era, football is regarded as a serious business all over the world. Although awards for BEST TEAM or BEST PLAYER was previously given to the best performers after the match or the tournaments to encourage the teams or individual players to perform well, ‘THE INDIAN FOOTBALL BUSINESS AWARDS’ will play a phenomenal role to blend the game of football with business and will recognize the hard work done by the managers and support staffs off the field which also plays a major role in the success of a club. Till today the hard work of these people were not brought into limelight until today when IDEAS UNLIMITED SPORTS MANAGEMENT GROUP came up with the innovative concept of ‘THE INDIAN FOOTBALL BUSINESS AWARDS’ which will recognize the efforts of different departments which plays an active role in running the club to glory.

In modern football several departments like ‘sponsorship plans’ ‘marketing’ ‘public relations’ ‘scouting’ ‘jerseys’ ‘merchandising’ ‘stadium infrastructure’ ‘ground conditions’ ‘youth academy’ ‘fan community development’ etc. are some of the prominent departments that needs to be addressed, developed and make them activate to run a football club successfully. Managers working on these departments needs to implement all the modern managerial tools and technique to make their product and services unique to increase the fans base and ultimately the revenues of the respective clubs. ‘THE INDIAN FOOTBALL BUSINESS AWARDS’ strives to recognize these hardworking team managers and their staffs and categorizes them into respective departments and holds an award ceremony where their effort and passion will be recognized through this initiative.

What will be the benefit of such award? It will encourage these managers to work with more dedication in their respective fields and it will also recognize the hard work done by the business tycoons and prominent personalities and also encourage them to dedicate their valuable time and money in the development of Indian football and also encourage the upcoming entrepreneur to enter the Indian football market and help this growing industry to develop rapidly. Thus, we can say ‘THE INDIAN FOOTBALL BUSINESS AWARDS’ which is introduced by the IDEAS UNLIMITED SPORTS MANAGEMENT GROUP will have the sole mission to recognize the hard work given by the business tycoons and prominent personalities and their dedicated staffs in order to develop the Indian football and it will also act as a fuel to the engine called Indian Football to reach its glorified destination in years to come.

When the I-League began in 2007 the last sponsor from the old National Football League,  ONGC , where brought in as the sponsors, making the league be known as the ONGC I-League. However, after the  2010–11  seasons, the deal with ONGC was not renewed and the I-League was left without a sponsorship deal till 2013. On 24 September 2013, it was announced that  telecommunications  company,  Airtel  would be the new title sponsor of the I-League, thus making the league known as the  Airtel I-League.
